5 Big Things to Know For Your Irish Campervan Trip

There’s little doubt that Ireland is one of the most amazing places in the world for a campervan trip. With such an abundance of beautiful sights and friendly people, it’s little wonder why it’s such a popular pastime that has such broad appeal. However, planning is needed for this kind of adventure so that you get important things like campervan insurance in place.

Personal Insurance | Car Insurance | Home Insurance

With this in mind, we thought we’d put together a brief guide that covers five big aspects of any successful campervan road trip in Ireland. Of course, there’s much more to it than what we’ll be discussing here, but it helps to know the basics.

Tip #1 – Knowing When to Go

While the weather in Ireland can be unpredictable all year round, it’s at its most stable during the summer months. This doesn’t guarantee that you won’t see rain, but you will at least see less of it. If you can’t avoid going in the autumn or winter, try the Accuview Weather App to keep an eye on what’s happening.

Tip #2 – Plan Your Route

If you want to get the most from your campervan trip, you need to plan where you’re going to go. A good resource for doing so is the Wild Atlantic Way website, and don’t forget that even in the drives between locations, you’re likely to find some places to stop.

Tip #3 – Plan Trip Activities

As fulfilling as sightseeing is, it’s not going to take up all of your time, so be sure to plan activities to keep yourself entertained. There are many hikes to enjoy, as well as some great surfing in County Donegal and, of course, the amazing pub scene with lots of live music.

Tip #4 – Know Where to Get Water

Filling up with water is fortunately free in Ireland, meaning you’ll have no issues getting what you need at petrol stations, harbours and even cemeteries! As such, it’s a good idea to get yourself some 5-litre plastic collapsible water bottles to keep you stocked up.

Tip #5 – Know Where Proper Loos Are!

While you’ll likely have your own campervan toilet, it’s nice to use a real loo every now and again.  So, be sure to use public, restaurant and pub toilets when you can. Also, when disposing of your chemical toilet ‘cassettes’, remember they can only be emptied in designated areas.

Getting the Right Campervan Insurance

If you want your camper to go swimmingly, getting the planning right is important. Something else that’s vital is ensuring you get the right camper insurance for your needs. As such, the LHK team can help you with cover that gives you real peace of mind.
